Paul Stromberg, President of the Portland Metro Beekeeping Club was our guest speaker!

Paul gave a great talk on queen rearing and how that intertwines with keeping nucs and being self sustaining. He uses queen rearing to control colony creep, the embarrassment of riches when we have to split hives in the spring to control swarming, but really don't want more colonies.

Paul Stromberg, President of the Portland Metro Beekeeping Club

From PauI:

I started beekeeping when I was 12 years old, I am a hobbyist beekeeper.  I usually have about 15 or so colonies including Langstroth/TopBar/Observation and Slovenian AZ hives. I’m the president of the Portland Metro Beekeeping club and I am a Certified Master Beekeeper. I enjoy queen rearing and have been doing that for the last 4 years or so.
